WhatConverts review 2026: price, GDPR and when call tracking is worth it
Which ad gave the call? The question is simply phrased but hard to answer. WhatConverts links calls, forms and chat to exact campaign and keyword. We have reviewed prices, GDPR status and when the tool actually pays off for a Swedish small business.
WhatConverts is an American lead tracking tool that gathers calls, forms, chat and e-commerce in one place. The strength is call tracking: the tool swaps the phone number on the site depending on where the visitor came from, so every call can be tied back to ad, campaign and ideally keyword. For ad-driven businesses it is one of the few solutions that really answers the question βwhich ad gave the customer?β.
Pros and cons of WhatConverts
Pros
- Broad lead attribution: calls, forms, chat and e-commerce in the same view.
- Excellent user ratings globally: 4.9 out of 5 on both G2 and Capterra.
- SOC 2 Type 2 audited and data processing agreement exists in the EU version.
- Bootstrapped, profitable company since 2014 without venture capital owners, giving a stable product.
- Can send qualified leads back as conversions to Google Ads, so bidding is trained on real business.
Cons
- All data is stored and processed in the USA (AWS) under US law. The privacy policy states no transfer mechanism for EU data, which is a red flag in our Schrems III traffic light.
- Prices in USD with usage fees on top of the subscription. Swedish numbers cost about USD 3 per number and month plus 6 cents per minute, making the total monthly cost hard to predict.
- Entry-level plan at about USD 30 only tracks calls and SMS; form tracking requires Plus at about USD 60.
- Interface is only in English. Call recording requires an active consent setup in Sweden.
- International tracking numbers normally require address verification, adding extra friction at start.
Prices 2026
| Plan | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Call Tracking | approx USD 30/month | Call and SMS tracking |
| Plus | approx USD 60/month | Forms, chat and e-commerce |
| Enterprise | Quote | Larger volumes and agency features |
On top of the subscription come usage fees. A Swedish tracking number costs about USD 3 per month and 6 cents per minute. For a business with many incoming calls this can quickly exceed the subscription.
When is WhatConverts the right choice?
WhatConverts suits you if you:
- advertise for tens of thousands of SEK per month and live on incoming calls
- want to know exactly which campaign and keyword generate leads
- handle no particularly sensitive customer data in the calls
- can accept USA data storage and USD prices
It does not suit healthcare clinics, law firms or others where the calls themselves are sensitive personal data. Recorded patient calls on American servers without a clear transfer mechanism are the wrong place to be if the Schrems III question is decided badly.
Alternatives to consider
- Matomo β EU-based analytics with multi-channel attribution in the cloud plan from EUR 29/month. No call tracking, but good for forms and clicks.
- Plausible β Simple, cookie-free and cheap from USD 9/month. All data in Europe. No deep attribution or call tracking.
- Google Analytics 4 β Free and powerful, but data is processed in the USA and IMY has already sanctioned Swedish companies for unlawful use.

Summary
WhatConverts gets 3.1 out of 5 in our review. The product quality justifies a much higher score β it is one of the better lead tracking tools we have seen. But for Swedish businesses the USA data storage, the unclear transfer terms and the variable USD costs drag down the overall score. If you advertise heavily by phone and have good control of data protection issues it can be a strong choice. In all other cases start with UTM parameters and an EU-friendly analytics tool.

WhatConverts
WhatConverts (USA)
American top-class lead tracking: calls, forms and chat are tied to the exact ad that generated the customer. The catch for Swedish companies: all data is stored and processed in the USA, prices are in USD and usage fees are added on top of the subscription.
- Unusually broad lead attribution with calls, forms, chat and e-commerce in the same view
- Top ratings from users globally (4.9 out of 5 on both G2 and Capterra); the product itself is excellent
- All data is stored and processed in the USA (AWS) under US law, with no stated transfer mechanism in the privacy policy; a red flag in our Schrems III traffic light
Best for: Agencies and ad-driven companies that want to see exactly which campaigns generate calls and leads, and that can handle US data storage.
Matomo
InnoCraft Ltd
Web analytics with open source that you can self-host completely for free, with cloud version stored in Germany. The catch: the company behind it, InnoCraft, is New Zealand-based and self-hosting requires your own operation and maintenance.
- Open source: self-host on a Swedish server for total data control
- Cloud version stored at AWS in Frankfurt with backup within the EU
- The company behind it, InnoCraft, is registered in New Zealand, not the EU
Best for: Companies that want full control over analytics data through self-hosting, or a mature GA4 replacement with all features
Plausible Analytics
Plausible Insights OΓ
Estonian, cookieless and lightning-fast analytics tool with all data at Hetzner in Germany, GDPR-friendly without a consent banner. The catch: no free plan and deliberately stripped down, so advanced analytics needs hit the ceiling.
- EU company (Estonia) with all data at European providers in Germany and Finland
- Fully cookieless: no consent banner required for basic measurement
- No free plan, only 30-day trial
Best for: Small and medium-sized businesses that want to skip the cookie banner and get understandable statistics on a single page
Google Analytics 4
Google LLC (Alphabet Inc.)
The market's standard tool: free, powerful and deeply integrated with Google Ads. The catch: data is processed on Google's global servers without EU storage guarantee, legality rests on the contested EU-US Data Privacy Framework and a consent banner is required.
- Free even at very large traffic volumes
- Unbeatable integration with Google Ads, Search Console and BigQuery
- No EU data storage, data processed on Google's global server park
Best for: Ad-driven businesses that depend on the Google Ads ecosystem and accept the USA transfer
