Scrive review 2026: price, BankID, and better alternatives

Scrive is one of Sweden’s best-known e-signing services. The company was founded in 2010 and has built a strong reputation especially among businesses that need legally valid signing with Swedish BankID. Since 2020 Scrive has been owned by British Vitruvian Partners, but operations and development still take place in Sweden.

What does Scrive cost in 2026?

The prices apply to annual payment. Monthly billing is more expensive or not available at all for the advertised rates. What stands out is not the pricing itself but where BankID sits: only in the Business plan. For Swedish small businesses the big question is therefore whether you are prepared to pay roughly twice as much per user to get the e-ID your customers actually use.

In the Essential plan’s defence: the document count is unlimited even there. If you sign a lot but can manage without BankID, the entry price is reasonable.

Security: Scrive’s strongest card

The evidence side is where Scrive earns its reputation. Every signed document comes with an evidence package that ranks among the stronger ones on the market, and the platform is ISO 27001:2022 certified. Data is stored within the EU/EES, a data processing agreement exists, and support for Nordic e-IDs is broad: BankID, MitID and others.

Two caveats belong here rather than among the drawbacks. The standard platform runs on AWS, an American cloud company; if you want sovereign operations you can choose the Extended Compliance add-on with hosting at Swedish Cleura, but that is an add-on, not the default. If you have particularly sensitive agreements, read the DPA carefully. And owner Vitruvian Partners is based in the UK, outside the EU, a non-issue for most, but worth knowing if your organisation has strict requirements on the ownership chain.

Who should choose Scrive, and who should not

Choose Scrive if you write agreements that must hold up in court, need Nordic e-IDs, and have the budget for the Business plan (or enough volume to negotiate an Enterprise quote). You get an established company with strong certification and a Swedish presence.

Choose something else if you only sign a few documents a month and feel 49 € per user is a lot of money for BankID. That is the single biggest mark against the rating, and it is a deliberate pricing decision by Scrive, not something that will go away.

The alternatives

• DocuSign: world-leading, enormous feature depth and integration range. The downside is that it is American and subject to the CLOUD Act.
• GetAccept: sales-oriented digital sales room with e-signing, document tracking and video greetings. Swedish roots but American parent company.
• Local/storage-secure alternatives: if you want to avoid American clouds entirely, look at providers with operations in Swedish or European clouds.

Verdict

Scrive remains one of the safest and most thoroughly developed options for Swedish e-signing. For businesses with contract volumes and demands for legal certainty it is a solid choice. For smaller businesses that only sign a few documents a month, everything comes down to one question: is BankID worth the Business plan’s price to you? If yes, the choice is easy. If no, there are cheaper routes to legal e-signing.
