Start a podcast or video as a small business: let AI edit, but choose where the transcript goes

A podcast or simple video series is still the cheapest way for a small business to show what it can do. The problem has never been the microphone. It’s the hours afterwards. An hour of conversation has to become forty publishable minutes. That is where AI actually makes a difference. There you also need to choose your path with open eyes.

The easiest recording path

If you sit alone, a USB microphone and any recording program are enough. If you have remote guests, Descript is hard to beat. The remote recording service SquadCast is included in the subscription. Edit in text, not the waveform

Descript’s core idea is that the transcript is the editing surface. Delete a sentence in the document and the corresponding piece disappears from audio and video. For someone who has never opened an editing program, this is the difference between publishing and giving up.

But two things should be said before you pay. Swedish is supported as one of about twenty transcription languages. Descript itself gives different figures on different pages. The company even markets Swedish transcription as its own feature. Still, English is the first-class language.

Automatic removal of filler words only works in English, German, French, Portuguese and Italian. Your “eh” and “liksom” you have to search for and delete manually in the text. It goes quickly. But it is not the magical button press that demo videos show.

The second issue is data. Descript’s own privacy policy states outright that the company processes and stores information in the USA. Data can end up in jurisdictions with weaker protection than your own. The security page specifies that audio, video and transcripts are stored on Amazon S3 or Google Cloud. No EU storage is offered. A customer conversation about sensitive business matters does not belong there.

The ratings also diverge. Descript gets 4.6 on G2 but 3.0 on Trustpilot. There users complain about crashes and lost work. So know what you are buying: convenience, not stability.

What about price? The free plan gives 60 minutes of processing per month with a 720p watermark. That is enough to test the workflow on a real episode. Descript or CapCut – which suits your channel?

If you only need to clip short videos for social media, CapCut is free and powerful. But it is also owned by ByteDance, and all material is processed outside the EU. Transcribe locally or within the EU

Here comes the bridge to the rest of the site. whisper.cpp transcribes completely locally, for free and without an account. It only takes a few commands in the terminal. Then it runs on a normal computer. Choose the multilingual model variant, not base.en as the quickstart example uses.

Even better for Swedish is KB-Whisper from the National Library of Sweden’s data lab. It is trained on over 50,000 hours of Swedish speech. On average it makes 47% fewer errors than OpenAI’s corresponding size. It is available as ready-made GGML files that work directly in whisper.cpp.

The downside is that you get text, not an editing tool. In the standard version there is no speaker labelling either. The editing then happens in any program with the transcript beside it.

If you want cloud convenience with EU storage, Amberscript is available. It runs on Google Cloud in Frankfurt and is ISO 27001 certified. The price starts at 19 EUR per month for five hours. There are also prepaid hours from 10 EUR per hour.

The company itself states about 90% accuracy for AI transcripts. Count on proofreading. When it has to be right you can pay for human transcription at around 1,200 kr per audio hour.

Clips for social media

Opus Clip finds the most shareable sequences in an episode. It formats them for TikTok and Shorts. The free version covers 60 source minutes per month. Starter costs from 15 USD.

It works, but don’t trust the virality score. Users report that low-ranked clips often perform best. The AI can cut away punchlines. On Trustpilot recurring users complain about charges after cancellation.

Review every clip before publishing. Also note that exports on the free plan are deleted after three days.

Storykit is something else. Text becomes storyboard, which becomes finished video in your graphic profile. It is built by Swedish Storykit AB. It suits businesses that produce continuously.

But there is no open price list. Everything goes via sales meeting. The privacy policy promises storage “mainly” in Sweden, without an absolute EU guarantee. Despite the Swedish flag: read the agreement.

When you don’t need AI at all

Do you record alone, from a script, in ten-minute takes? Then transcript editing solves a problem you don’t have. Free and open Audacity cuts out false starts in a quarter of an hour. The money is better spent on a better microphone.

AI editing only pays off when episodes are long, conversations unstructured, or the volume of social clips needs to rise.
